Australia: Kakadu traditional owners sound alarm over spill radioactive material

AAP: A burst tank at the Ranger uranium mine in Kakadu national park has released what traditional owners say is up to 1m litres of acidic radioactive slurry, in what they describe as one of the biggest nuclear accidents in Australian history.
The site could be closed for up to two months as mine operators seek to contain it.
At 1am on Saturday morning a hole was discovered in the side of a leach tank. Staff were evacuated before it collapsed.

Camp Lejeune water contamination linked to birth defects

Reuters: Water pollution at the Camp Lejeune military base in North Carolina has been linked to increased risk of birth defects and childhood cancers, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
A study released by the CDC's Agency for Toxic Substance & Disease Registry on Thursday confirmed a long-suspected link between chemical contaminants in tap water at the Marine Corps base and serious birth defects such as spina bifida
