United States: August heat ends on a high note: 100 again

Houston Chronicle: We survived. August mercifully ended Wednesday with yet another 100-degree day, giving the city 30 of them in 31 days of the month. But that's not the most mind-blowing statistic of the month, which was the warmest on city records by far. With an estimated average temperature of 90.4 degrees, this month obliterated the previous record holder in more than a century's worth of data. The previous record holder was August 2010, which had an average temperature of 87.7 degrees. How improbable......
